Internet Aware Traditions

If you don't get this, the place to start is with this post by John Cole. Then go on to this other post by John Cole. Long story short, a commenter on this post by d said a kind of a goofy thing, and now people are mocking them mercilessly. Who am I to pass up a little mocking? So, the latest album by the band NeoNeoCon, which is titled "Internet Traditions".

Return of the Fake Album Cover

In January and February, there was an Internet meme going around where you took some random links and made a fake album cover. I really got into it, before it sort of faded away. Today, inspired by Dead Dad and Rudbeckia Hirta, I have devised "Blowing Cellulose", the new album by the band The Mouth of Mainstream Culture.

That is all.

Doomed Megalopolis

"Doomed Megalopolis" is an excellent name for a rock band. I love the album title, too. Maybe this random image isn't quite the one that I want, but still, it's a good album cover.

In fact, after typing that, I decided to give it another try. So here's a better cover, featuring, no doubt, the girls in the band.

I have decided to go exercise tomorrow, come what may. My foot was feeling much better right up until I made that decision, when it decided to pain me again. So I may opt for the exercise bike, or some other low-impact alternative. But I can't go another day without exercise, or I'll blow up!

Day 549 -- Failure Isn't Fatal

Nothing much to stand in front of here on the highway between Valmy and Golconda, so how about a nice new album cover? This is "Failure Isn't Fatal," the newest album from the group Focusing. Or, I don't know, maybe it's "Focusing," the newest album from the group Failure Isn't Fatal. It really could go either way.

I ran an easy four this morning. However, my right foot is sore. Right on the ball of my foot, I've got a sore spot. I don't know what it is. The hypochondriac in me is saying that it's a stress fracture, and that my training is about to go out the window. I hope not. In any case, I'm going to give it a day or two off. I hate to do that, but I'd hate more to make it worse.

Day 540 -- Rixies, Nevada

Seven miles today takes me just about exactly to Rixies, Nevada, but I'll be damned if I can find any decent images to post. So, I went ahead and designed the album cover for "By Your Friends", the newest album from The Rixies.

In other news, Mother Nature has dumped a mess of snow on our neighborhood. Again. The Little Joggers had a snow day, and they even closed the University Campus at 2:00. Alas, my only real class was at 11 this morning, so it met. I also had my Calc study group from 1 to 3. After 2, I told my students that they were there without authorization, and one raised a fist and cried, "Fight the Power!" You've got to admit, it's gratifying to have students who aren't looking for an excuse not to work. I mean, they do have an assignment due tomorrow, but still, they are working on it, instead of seizing on an excuse to blow it off.

Hey, I'm totally over the fake album cover thing!

No, I'm not.

Best Band Name Yet

I'm not thrilled with this cover layout, but I do like the band name.

I skipped my run this morning. I was up and dressed, but then I noticed Mrs. Jogger waving a little white flag, and I decided to stay home to help her deal with the Little Joggers as they awoke. It turns out only the oldest and newest Little Jogger was up to school. So Mrs. J ended up home with three kids and three trillion viral cells. When I got home this evening, there were no fewer kids, thought I'm not sure there were fewer viral cells, either.

I hope we get a lot of rest this weekend, and start back up the slow road to recovery.

Today's Album

"Indifferent to Everything", by Levenhookia.

You were hoping that I was over it, weren't you?

Man, I just can't quit!

This Band Rocks!

The latest album by Concord Mass, which is titled "Not Crazy Enough to be True," is not true. I don't know whether it's crazy enough, or not. I'm really getting into this phony album cover thing. If you didn't follow the links below, the way it works is: a) You pick a random Wikipedia page for your band's name, b) you pick a random quote, the last four words of which are to be your album's title, and c) you pick a random image for cover art. It doesn't always work (I had a band called the 1903 Oregon Ducks Football Team, which, while not impossible, seemed unlikely to me) but it works often enough to be funny. I believe that any of the three that I've posted could be real cover art for real bands. Follow the links in the "Frank Poole" post to see some more awesome covers. (And yes, I did cheat on the "last four words" thing. For Frank Poole, I cut it off at three words. For Concord Mass, I extended it to six (although "Enough to be True" isn't totally out of the question, and "Crazy Enough to be True" works just as well. (Lots of parenths in this sentence, aren't there?)))

In unrelated news, I took today off from running. I was scheduled to do three, but I decided to sleep in, to try to shake this cold. Anyway, it was nasty windy and cold this morning, and I didn't feel like going out long enough even to scrape the ice off the car.

Two Little Joggers went to school today, and two stayed home. The doctor has prescribed a cough medicine with codeine, which is keeping them pretty mellow. I, personally, am just hoping to make it through the week. Five more lectures! If this post is a bit silly, blame the germs.

Day 534 and 535 -- Narman

I got so busy making my album cover yesterday that I didn't get around to posting my mileage. I did an easy 3 yesterday, and today I did four 800 meter intervals. With a warm-up and a couple of laps between each interval, I got in about five miles today.

To celebrate, I've created the cover art for the new album "A Very Poor Doorstop," by the grunge band Narman.

In other news, the Jogger family is sick. All of us. It isn't much fun. Both boys stayed home from school today. The first Little Jogger came home feeling punk, and she poured herself into bed. Mrs. J and the oldest and newest Little Jogger are basically getting over their colds. And I'm feeling one coming on. I hope that I have a voice tomorrow. It's pretty rough around here, right now.

Recommended listening

I just picked up the latest Frank Poole album, Performing Brave Actions, and I have to say that it is the best thing I've listened to in a long, long time.
